A suspect was arrested near US President Donald Trump's golf course in California on August 2 after authorities recovered weapons and ammunition from his possession, raising fresh security concerns among law enforcement agencies. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said an armed man was arrested on Sunday outside the Trump National Golf Club in Southern California. According to federal agents, the suspect had been moving around the premises.
According to a CNN report, a federal law enforcement source said the US Secret Service is investigating whether the individual posed a threat to President Donald Trump. The suspect's arrest was announced while Trump was aboard Air Force One en route to California. The President is scheduled to attend a Republican National Committee dinner at his Rancho Palos Verdes golf course on Tuesday evening.
Authorities identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jeannin John Talle of Downey, California. Officials said Talle was already wanted in connection with a robbery case registered in El Segundo. According to the Sheriff's Department, he was taking photographs and recording videos around the golf course and appeared to be monitoring security operations. He was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Talle pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to four criminal charges. These include a robbery charge dating back to November 2025 and three weapons-related charges filed following his arrest near Trump National Golf Club.
The Sheriff's Department said detectives from the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force searched Talle's residence on Monday. During the search, investigators recovered a notebook containing references to an AR-style rifle, a .45-calibre pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, radio signal devices and other equipment.
