Three labourers killed in suspected chemical leak at Karnataka factory

Bengaluru, 05 August (H.S.):Three young labourers died and two others were hospitalised following a suspected chemical leak at a factory in the Kadechur-Badiyal Industrial Area of Karnataka’s Yadgir district in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Vikram and Sanjay, both residents of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, and Ganesh, a native of Mahabubnagar district in Telangana. All three were aged between 20 and 25 years.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. when the five labourers were inside the industrial plant. They reportedly fell ill after being exposed to a chemical substance that leaked within the factory premises.

Following the incident, the affected workers were immediately shifted to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in neighbouring Raichur district for emergency medical treatment.

Doctors at the hospital declared Vikram, Sanjay and Ganesh brought dead. The two surviving workers, identified as Hemanth and Shivakumar, both residents of Ananthapur district in Andhra Pradesh, were admitted for treatment.

The condition of one of the injured workers is stated to be critical, while doctors are continuing to monitor both of them.

The incident prompted senior police officials to rush to the industrial area. Yadgir Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar, along with other senior officers, visited the factory and inspected the site.

Police have begun gathering information from factory officials and workers to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The precise chemical involved in the suspected leak and the immediate cause of the accident are yet to be ascertained.

Authorities are also expected to examine whether adequate industrial safety measures and protective equipment were in place at the plant when the incident occurred.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
