Asan (South Korea), 05 August (H.S.): India's young badminton sensation Tanvi Sharma made an impressive start to her Korea Masters 2026 campaign by advancing to the second round of the women's singles event on Wednesday. The third-seeded 17-year-old defeated China's Yuan An Chi in straight games, 21-16, 21-15, to book her place in the next round.

Fresh from winning the Chinese Taipei Open title, Tanvi delivered a confident performance throughout the contest. She will now face fellow Indian Shriyanshi Valishetty in the second round after the latter defeated Chinese Taipei's Pai Yu-Po 21-15, 21-14.

In the men's doubles event, India's Prithvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Krishna Prasad Garaga produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by defeating fourth-seeded Thai pair Worrapol Thongsa-Nga and Chalermpon Charoenkitamorn 21-16, 21-18 to progress to the second round.

The Indian duo, ranked World No. 118, stunned the World No. 48 Thai pair in a 42-minute encounter.

In the men's singles qualifying competition, Tushar Suveer defeated Canada's Shaurya Gulia 21-15, 21-12 in the opening qualifying round. However, he fell short of a place in the main draw after losing 21-10, 21-17 to Japan's Shogo Ogawa in the qualifying final.

Meanwhile, in the men's doubles event, the Indian pair of Arjun Reddy Pochana and Achutaditya Rao Doddavarapu suffered a 21-3, 21-10 defeat against second-seeded Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem.

In the women's doubles competition, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra were also eliminated in the opening round after losing 21-15, 21-13 to Japan's second-seeded pair of Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa.
