New Delhi, 05 August (H.S.): On the 13th day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Wednesday, Congress and other opposition parties’ MPs staged a protest on the Parliament premises, targeting the government over police action during the students’ protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20, alleged irregularities in the Ram Temple donations, and other issues. They demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah respond to these matters in Parliament.

During the protest, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and other opposition MPs took out a protest march from the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex to the Makar Dwar.

MPs from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and other opposition parties participated in the demonstration carrying banners and posters. The opposition MPs alleged that excessive force was used during the peaceful student protest on July 20 and demanded that accountability be fixed for the incident. They also urged the Home Minister to come to Parliament and present the government’s position on the matter.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi said that if bullets, pellet guns, tear gas, or lathi-charge were used against students, someone must be held responsible. She said such orders are issued either at the administrative level or by the government, and therefore accountability must be established. She added that India’s democratic tradition has always been based on accepting responsibility for such incidents.

Independent MP Pappu Yadav alleged that BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj remains active only in filing cases against Rahul Gandhi. He claimed that she does not have a proper understanding of the law and reaches police stations whenever she wants.
