
Kolkata, 05 August (H.S.): One truck driver was killed and another seriously injured after two trucks collided head-on on National Highway-12 at Ahiran in West Bengal's Murshidabad district early Wednesday morning. The accident disrupted traffic on the highway for some time before normal movement was restored.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Rahul Ghosh, a resident of Gaighata in Raghunathganj. The injured driver, identified as Prabir Biswas, was rescued by local residents and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one truck was travelling from Malda to Berhampore, while the other was heading from Berhampore towards Malda. The two vehicles collided head-on on NH-12 near Ahiran under Suti police station limits. The impact of the crash was so severe that the front portion of one of the trucks was completely mangled, resulting in Rahul Ghosh's death at the scene.
Police and rescue personnel reached the spot soon after the accident, removed the damaged vehicles and restored traffic on the highway. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding or negligent driving may have led to the collision.
