Thiruvananthapuram, 05 August (H.S.):Educational institutions in 10 districts of Kerala will remain closed on Wednesday as heavy rain continues to lash several parts of the state, disrupting normal life and raising concerns over flooding and rough sea conditions.

Holidays have been declared for educational institutions in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Wayanad districts.

Kerala University has postponed all examinations scheduled for Wednesday, including theory, practical and viva voce examinations. Revised dates will be announced later. However, examinations conducted by the university’s teaching departments will be held as scheduled.

In Kasaragod, the holiday applies to all educational institutions, including colleges, professional colleges, schools, anganwadis, tuition centres, ICSE and CBSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas and other religious educational institutions. However, previously scheduled university and public examinations, as well as interviews, will be conducted without any change.

Meanwhile, authorities have issued warnings of possible coastal flooding and sea erosion along parts of Kerala under the Kallakkadal phenomenon.

The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) said the coastlines of Thiruvananthapuram, from Kappil to Pozhiyoor; Kollam, from Alappad to Edava; and Alappuzha, from Chellanam to Azhikkal Jetty, could experience high waves ranging between 1.1 metres and 1.4 metres.

The warning will remain in force from 5.30 am on Wednesday until 11.30 pm on Thursday.

The Kanyakumari coast is also likely to experience waves between 1.2 metres and 1.6 metres until 2.30 pm on Thursday, increasing the possibility of sea incursion in vulnerable areas.

Fishermen and residents living along the affected coastline have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as rough sea conditions are expected to persist.
