Ranchi, 05 August (H.S.): Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto, who was on a hunger strike at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium protesting alleged irregularities in the recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), ended his waterless fast on Wednesday after consuming water. However, he made it clear that his indefinite hunger strike and the broader movement would continue as before.

According to reports, social activist Sonam Wangchuk spoke with Devendra Nath Mahto through a video call on Wednesday. During the conversation, Wangchuk inquired about Mahto’s health and advised him to drink water to ensure his well-being while continuing the protest. Following Wangchuk’s appeal, Mahto consumed water and ended his waterless fast. He said that he would now drink water but would continue his hunger strike.

Meanwhile, a team of doctors reached the protest site and examined Devendra Nath Mahto’s health condition. His health is being monitored continuously. Mahendra Mandal is also sitting on hunger strike along with Mahto.

It is noteworthy that Brahmanand Kumar, another participant in the protest, continues to remain on an open waterless fast. He has not consumed water so far. Wednesday marked the fourth day of his waterless hunger strike.
