Guwahati, 05 August (HS): Flood conditions in Assam remain critical, with 122,137 people across 10 districts still affected, even as water levels continue to recede in several areas. Two more bodies were recovered on Tuesday from Sivasagar and Golaghat, taking the flood death toll in the state to 89.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 365 villages under 28 revenue circles remain affected, while 15,342.92 hectares of agricultural land are still submerged. The affected districts include Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Kamrup (Metro), Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Nagaon.

The Dhansiri River at Numaligarh continues to flow above the danger mark, keeping residents on alert. Upper Assam districts, particularly Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, remain among the worst-hit despite receding floodwaters.

The state government is currently operating 39 relief camps and 16 relief distribution centres, sheltering 12,382 people, while 5,475 non-camp residents are receiving relief assistance.

The floods have also affected 26,575 animals, including 14,463 large animals, 11,630 small animals and 482 poultry birds. In Sivasagar district alone, 99 kutcha houses and 25 pucca houses have been completely destroyed, while several other homes, cattle sheds and huts have suffered partial damage.

Rescue and relief operations are being carried out by the SDRF, NDRF, Army, Air Force, police, Fire and Emergency Services, civil administration and trained volunteers. On Tuesday, 45 medical teams and 13 boats were deployed, rescuing 83 people to safer locations.

The government has also distributed essential relief materials, including rice, pulses, salt, mustard oil and cattle feed, while continuing to assess damage to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is closely monitoring the situation and reviewing relief and rehabilitation efforts with officials.----------
