Guwahati, 05 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday assured flood-affected families in Sivasagar district's Nepalikhuti that the state government would extend all possible assistance for rehabilitation, including rebuilding damaged houses and replacing livestock lost in the devastating floods.

Addressing residents, the Chief Minister directed officials to immediately distribute pending compensation cheques of ₹4 lakh and ₹5 lakh to eligible beneficiaries. He also asked the administration to prepare a list of damaged houses and cattle losses without delay.

We cannot bring back those who have lost their lives, but we will provide every possible support. We will rebuild your homes and replace the cattle that have died. Do not worry, he told the flood victims.

During his visit, Dr. Sarma also visited the residence of Ridin Panikar at Bamunpukhuri in Nazira, who lost his life while trying to rescue his pet dog during the floods. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and extended financial assistance.

Responding to a public demand, the Chief Minister also assured that a milk processing unit would be established at Nepalikhuti to support local dairy farmers. He further announced that flood-affected families who have not yet received the ₹15,000 relief assistance would soon be provided the amount through cheques.

The Chief Minister also inspected the flood situation at Bamunpukhuri, where severe flooding has destroyed residential quarters in tea garden areas. He interacted with tea garden workers and reviewed the extent of damage suffered by them, assuring appropriate rehabilitation measures.---------------
