Hooghly, 05 August (H.S.): A programme was organized in Arambagh on Wednesday to press for the implementation of the legitimate demands of visual artists and art teachers across West Bengal. The event was attended by the Arambagh MLA along with several eminent citizens, artists, and cultural personalities from the region.

During the programme, participants highlighted a number of important issues concerning art education, artistic development, and the future of visual artists in the state.

Representatives of the artists' community demanded the appointment of qualified visual artists and art teachers in schools at all levels across West Bengal. According to them, strengthening art education from the school level would help nurture creativity and artistic talent among students from an early age.

The participants also strongly demanded the establishment of a modern Art College and Art Gallery in Arambagh. They argued that such institutions would provide local artists with opportunities to develop their skills while offering aspiring young artists proper training and platforms to showcase their work.

Speakers at the event emphasized that art and culture are essential components of a society’s creative identity. They stressed the need to ensure respect, training opportunities, and professional support for artists, along with the development of adequate infrastructure to promote artistic activities.

The programme concluded with a collective message from artists and organizers: “Let art survive, let artists thrive—let a creative Bengal move forward.” Participants also called for a broader movement in the coming days to strengthen the demand for an Art College and Art Gallery in Arambagh.
