Chandigarh, 05 August (H.S.): Amritsar Police have arrested two persons and recovered 10 kg of heroin while cracking down on a suspected cross-border drug trafficking network in Punjab. Punjab Police Director General Gaurav Yadav shared the information on Wednesday, stating that the seized heroin is estimated to be worth crores of rupees in the international market.

According to police, Amritsar Rural Police launched a special operation in the jurisdiction of Gharinda police station based on a tip-off. During the operation, two suspects were arrested and 10 kg of heroin was recovered from their possession.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the consignment was allegedly brought into India from across the border and was being prepared for distribution in Punjab and other states.

A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Gharinda police station. Police are questioning the arrested accused to identify other persons linked to the trafficking network and investigate its possible international connections.

Officials said that the investigation is being expanded to trace both the forward and backward links of the network. Police maintained that the action will not be limited to the arrest of the two accused and efforts are underway to expose the entire drug trafficking network.
