Kolkata, 05 August (H.S.) : The Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) of the Nandigram Health District has issued closure notices to 28 diagnostic centres found operating without the required valid documents during an inspection, as part of a crackdown on unauthorised healthcare facilities in Purba Medinipur district.

According to officials, the action follows a four-day visit by West Bengal Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherjee, who recently inspected hospitals across the Purba Medinipur and Nandigram Health Districts. While the minister appreciated healthcare services at several facilities, he also expressed concern over irregularities at some locations.

Speaking to reporters, CMOH Dr Asit Kumar Debel said that diagnostic centres in the district had also been inspected a few months ago, when unauthorised facilities were directed to cease operations. However, several centres were found to be continuing operations without the necessary approvals.

During the latest inspection, authorities identified 28 diagnostic centres that failed to produce the mandatory valid documents. All of them have been served closure notices and will be allowed to resume operations only after obtaining and submitting the required approvals and documentation.

The Health Department said it would not tolerate the operation of healthcare facilities without statutory permission and added that further action would be taken in accordance with the law.
