Jorhat (Assam), 05 August (HS): Fresh flooding has affected around 150 families in Teok of Assam's Jorhat district, even as the impact of the recent floods continues to persist across Upper Assam.

According to reports, the Kakajan area of Teok was inundated after the Kakajan River swelled sharply overnight. The floodwaters submerged parts of the National Highway and entered residential areas, forcing nearly 150 families to once again move to higher ground in search of safety.

Residents said they had only recently begun cleaning and restoring their homes after floodwaters from the previous inundation receded when another wave of flooding entered their houses, leaving them distressed and fearful.

The affected families said they had already lost most of their belongings in the earlier flood and feared complete devastation if the water level rises further.

Locals alleged that repeated flooding in the area is being caused by breaches in the embankment of the Kakajan River and irregularities in the ongoing four-lane highway construction, which they claim have worsened the flood situation.
