
Kokkata, 05 August (H.S.): Police seized 11 kilograms of ganja from a private car during a late-night vehicle check in the Gopiballavpur-II subdivision of West Bengal's Jhargram district and arrested one person in connection with the case.
The arrested accused has been identified as Goshthabihari Ghosh, a resident of the Nimpura area in Kharagpur, Paschim Medinipur district.
According to police, vehicles were being checked at the Yugdiha naka checkpoint under Beliabera police station on Tuesday night when a private car coming from Odisha was stopped for inspection. During the search, officers recovered approximately 11 kg of ganja from the vehicle. The car used for transporting the contraband was also seized.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the seized ganja was being transported from Odisha to Kharagpur. A case has been registered against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was produced before the Jhargram court on Wednesday.
Police are now investigating whether other members were involved in the smuggling operation and if the case is linked to an inter-state narcotics trafficking network. Further investigation is underway.
