
New Delhi, 04 August (H.S.): Indian benchmark equity indices traded on a mixed note during early trading on Tuesday, with the BSE Sensex remaining in positive territory while the NSE Nifty traded lower after recovering from sharp early losses. The Sensex opened on a strong note, whereas the Nifty began the session in the red.
Soon after the opening bell, selling pressure pushed both indices below their opening levels. However, buying interest returned within the first 20 minutes of trading, helping both benchmarks recover part of their losses. By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was trading 0.25 per cent higher, while the Nifty remained down by 0.56 per cent.
The BSE Sensex opened 493.94 points, or 0.63 per cent, higher at 79,132.97. Selling pressure soon dragged the index down to an intraday low of 78,698.11. Buying later emerged, improving market sentiment. By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was trading 196.28 points higher at 78,835.31.
In contrast, the NSE Nifty opened 70.40 points, or 0.28 per cent, lower at 24,703.90. Heavy selling immediately after the opening pushed the index down to an intraday low of 24,589.35. It subsequently recovered some of the losses as buyers returned to the market. By 10:00 a.m., the Nifty was trading 138.15 points lower at 24,636.15.
Market breadth remained positive during early trading. A total of 2,756 stocks were actively traded, of which 1,810 advanced while 946 declined.
Among the 30 Sensex constituents, 23 stocks were trading in the green, supported by buying interest, while seven traded lower. On the Nifty, 15 of the 50 constituent stocks were in positive territory, whereas 35 traded in the red.
Among the major gainers by 10:00 a.m. were Hindalco Industries, Trent Limited, Adani Enterprises, Tata Steel and Jio Financial Services, with gains ranging between 0.53 per cent and 1.37 per cent.
On the losing side, Grasim Industries, Bajaj Auto, Titan Company, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories and Infosys declined between 1.57 per cent and 3.17 per cent.
In the previous trading session on Monday, the Sensex had closed 544.39 points, or 0.70 per cent, higher at 78,639.03, while the Nifty ended the day with a gain of 390.70 points, or 1.60 per cent, at 24,774.30.
