New Delhi, 04 August (H.S.):

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is holding its three-day review meeting for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The decisions taken during the bi-monthly MPC meeting, which began on Monday, will be announced by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra on August 5 at 10:00 a.m.

According to the RBI, Governor Sanjay Malhotra's monetary policy statement is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Indian Standard Time (IST) on August 5. This will be followed by a post-monetary policy press conference at 12:00 noon.

Economic experts believe that the six-member MPC is likely to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent, similar to its decision in the June meeting.

According to SBI Research, the possibility of the RBI maintaining status quo on policy rates remains high, as consumer price inflation is expected to remain above 5 per cent over the next two quarters, while domestic economic activity is showing signs of improvement.

A total of six MPC meetings are scheduled during the financial year 2026-27, with the ongoing meeting being the third. The first review meeting of the fiscal year was held in April.

The RBI had reduced the policy repo rate by 1.25 percentage points last year to support economic growth. The repo rate has remained unchanged at 5.25 per cent since then.
