New Delhi, 31 August (H.S.):

A husband and wife sustained serious burn injuries after a small LPG cylinder exploded inside a shanty in the Vivek Vihar area on Sunday evening. Both victims were taken to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital with the assistance of a Police Control Room (PCR) vehicle, where they are currently undergoing treatment. They are reported to have suffered burns over around 60 per cent of their bodies.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred at around 4:24 pm on Sunday at Jhuggi No. 11, located behind the Vivek Vihar police station. The LPG cylinder suddenly caught fire, following which the small cylinder exploded.

After receiving information about the incident, the Delhi Fire Service dispatched two water tenders and one water bowser to the spot. A team of firefighters, led by Station Officer Deshpal, reached the location and brought the situation under control. The fire was completely extinguished by around 4:55 pm.

The injured have been identified as Anil Das, 35, and his wife Khushboo, 30. Anil sustained burns over approximately 60 per cent of his body, while Khushboo also suffered burns over around 60 per cent of her body. Both were immediately shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Hospital through a PCR vehicle for medical treatment.

According to the initial assessment, the accident occurred following an explosion in the small LPG cylinder. Police and fire department teams are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
