New Delhi, 31 August (H.S.):Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the State University of Oriental Studies in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan.

In a post on X on Monday, Modi said his visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Centre on Sunday was interesting for several reasons. He noted the vibrant atmosphere surrounding the study of India and said there was considerable enthusiasm among people to learn more about the country.

“Visiting the Mahatma Gandhi Centre at the Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies on Sunday was interesting for several reasons. There is a vibrant atmosphere of Indology here. There is tremendous enthusiasm among people to read and learn about India. A great deal of work has also been undertaken here on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. There is growing interest among people here in Tamil culture as well. During the visit, students also recited a few lines from poems written by me,” Modi said.

The prime minister is currently on a four-day visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan that began on Saturday. During his visit, he is holding discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on further strengthening cooperation in trade and investment, digital connectivity, defence and energy.

The visit is aimed at deepening India's engagement with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and strengthening bilateral ties across a range of strategic, economic and cultural areas.
