Ludhiana, 31 August (H.S.): A mother and her daughter were killed in a road accident in Ludhiana on Monday morning after being hit by a heavy truck loaded with paper while they were crossing the road.

According to information, the truck had arrived in Ludhiana from the Garhshankar side and was headed to unload a consignment of paper in the city. Eyewitnesses said the truck was travelling from the Clock Tower area towards Lakad Bazar when it struck the mother and daughter as they were crossing the road.

Following the accident, a large crowd gathered at the spot. On receiving information, police officer Manpreet Singh reached the scene along with his team. The police took possession of the bodies and initiated further proceedings. The identities of the deceased had not been established at the time of reporting.

Police have also started legal proceedings against the truck and its driver. CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area is being examined to determine the exact circumstances that led to the accident.The truck driver is reportedly a resident of the Salem area. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident
