Bishkek /New Delhi, 31 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at his statue in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. He said Gandhi’s thoughts and ideals would continue to have a profound and unparalleled influence on people’s minds and hearts.

Sharing photographs of the interaction on social media platform X, the Prime Minister said he met a group of people who share a deep and enduring connection with India. The group included prominent members of the Indian diaspora, environmental enthusiasts, yoga practitioners, academics, former Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) alumni and researchers.

PM Modi expressed his appreciation for their continued association with India. He particularly mentioned a yoga practitioner who participated in and won a medal at the inaugural World Yogasana Championship held in Ahmedabad in 2026. The Prime Minister said such enduring connections were encouraging as India continues its efforts to promote yoga across the world.

PM Modi is currently visiting Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of President Sadyr Japarov to attend the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit.

Prime Minister Modi had unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Bishkek in 2015.
