Imphal, 31 August (HS): Security was stepped up at Shija Hospital and Research Institute (SHRI) in Manipur’s Imphal West district after a hand grenade was discovered near a public toilet on the hospital premises on Monday morning.

The suspected explosive was spotted by commuters at around 7.30 am, following which the matter was immediately reported to the police. A bomb disposal team of the Manipur Police subsequently reached the site and safely recovered the grenade.

No individual or organisation has so far claimed responsibility for placing the explosive. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain who left the grenade at the hospital premises and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
