New Delhi, 31 August (H.S.): Following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi, the draft voter list contains the names of only around 97 lakh voters out of more than 1.45 crore registered electors. This represents approximately 67.22 per cent of the total electorate.

The SIR exercise in Delhi was conducted from June 30 to August 17, during which the electoral rolls were updated through door-to-door verification as well as online submissions.

According to the Election Commission, 43,32,775 voters, or 29.86 per cent, did not submit their forms due to reasons including permanently shifting their residence, being unavailable at their address, and other factors. In addition, 2,82,412 voters (0.98 per cent) were found to be deceased, while 1,41,535 voters (1.95 per cent) were found to be registered at more than one location.

Overall, the names of 47,56,722 voters have not been included in the draft electoral roll. According to data released by the Election Commission, Delhi had a total of 1,45,10,299 registered voters prior to the revision exercise.

The draft electoral roll comprises 49,88,993 male voters and 47,64,137 female voters. There are also 447 transgender voters. The number of young voters aged between 18 and 19 stands at 1,03,870, while 40,871 voters are above the age of 85. As many as 189 voters have crossed the age of 100.

The Election Commission has said that voters whose names have been omitted from the draft roll can still seek their inclusion in the electoral register. Claims and objections can be submitted through Form 6 until September 30 as part of the prescribed process. The final electoral roll will be published on November 4, while claims and objections will be disposed of by October 29.

According to the Election Commission, polling stations have also been rationalised in accordance with its guidelines during the revision exercise. The maximum number of voters assigned to each polling station has been reduced from 1,500 to 1,200. As a result, the number of polling stations in Delhi has increased by 1,914, from 13,033 to 14,947.

The number of polling locations has also been increased from 2,696 to 2,856, resulting in the addition of 160 polling locations across the national capital.
