Sonitpur (Assam), 31 August (HS): A wild elephant damaged five houses in Jamunbeel village under Rangapara Police Station in Assam’s Sonitpur district late Sunday night while searching for food.

The elephant, which had separated from a herd, damaged the houses of Elizabeth Panna, Elijazhar Kharwar, Ladrus Kerketta, Rupali Rajgarh and Adam Tuti. Food items and other household belongings stored inside the houses were also damaged in the incident.

The incident has created panic among the villagers. Local residents have urged the Forest Department to take measures to prevent further elephant incursions and provide adequate compensation to the affected families.------------
