Guwahati, 31 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the state government has intensified police operations against cattle smuggling and vowed to take strict action against those involved in the illegal trade.

In a social media post, Sarma said cattle are closely associated with the spiritual life of people and serve as the main source of livelihood for many families. He said the “silent animals” have always contributed to human lives without seeking anything in return and those attempting to profit by illegally taking away people’s livelihood would face action.

As part of the intensified crackdown, police recently conducted operations at three locations in Nagaon district, seizing 22 vehicles and rescuing 298 cattle. A total of 33 people allegedly linked to the illegal trade were also detained.

The Chief Minister warned those involved in cattle smuggling that police operations against the illegal trade would be intensified further in the coming days.-----------
