New Delhi, 30 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appealed to citizens to join the nationwide effort to make India free from drug abuse, stressing the importance of protecting the country’s youth and securing a stronger future for the next generation.

Addressing his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat,PM Modi said the “Drug-Free Youth for a Developed India” campaign is gaining momentum across the country. He said the objective of the initiative is clear — to create a drug-free younger generation and contribute to the vision of a developed India.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to work together to tackle the problem of substance abuse and create greater awareness about its harmful effects. He emphasised that families, communities and young people all have an important role to play in preventing drug addiction.

PM Modi said a drug-free society would provide young people with a healthier environment to focus on education, employment, innovation, sports and other constructive pursuits. He also called for collective responsibility in ensuring that the younger generation remains protected from the dangers associated with substance abuse.

The government has been running several awareness and prevention programmes aimed at combating drug abuse, with a particular focus on young people. These initiatives seek to encourage community participation and strengthen awareness about the social and health-related consequences of substance addiction.

Reiterating the message of the campaign, PM Modi said the country must come together to build a drug-free India and a stronger future for its youth.
