Haridwar, August 30 (H.S.): A woman who had come to Haridwar from Ghaziabad with her family for a holy dip in the Ganga went missing under suspicious circumstances from the Har Ki Pauri area. Her husband has alleged that two unidentified men may have lured or forcibly taken her away.
Based on the complaint, Nagar Kotwali police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The woman’s disappearance has left her family deeply concerned.
According to the complaint, the family from Ghaziabad had arrived in Haridwar on August 27. The woman was accompanied by her husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and nephew. On the morning of the incident, the family members were bathing at the women’s ghat in the Har Ki Pauri area when the woman suddenly went missing.
The family searched the ghat and surrounding areas but could not find her. They subsequently informed other relatives in Ghaziabad and approached the police.
Police began examining CCTV footage from the area following the family’s complaint. According to the family, the footage purportedly shows two unidentified persons holding the woman’s hand and taking her down the steps of the women’s ghat.
They allegedly then took her away on a scooter, with the woman seated between them.
Based on the footage, the woman’s husband expressed suspicion that the two men may have taken her away, either by misleading her or by force.
The husband also told police that his wife has a mental health condition and may not be fully able to distinguish between right and wrong, making her vulnerable to being misled by strangers. He has therefore expressed apprehension that the two unidentified men may have lured or forcibly taken her away.
Police searching CCTV footage for suspects
Nagar Kotwali police have registered a case under relevant sections and are examining CCTV footage from Har Ki Pauri and nearby areas to identify the suspects. Police teams have also been deployed at possible locations to trace the missing woman.
Nagar Kotwali Inspector Kundan Singh Rana said the case was registered on the basis of the complaint and that efforts were underway to identify the suspects through CCTV footage. Police teams are also searching for the woman at possible locations and are working to trace her safely.
