Debra, 30 August (H.S.): A tragic road accident on National Highway-16 near the Chandaburi Temple in Debra claimed the lives of two men early Sunday morning. The victims, who were related as brothers-in-law, were travelling together in a private car when the accident occurred.

The incident took place at around 2:30 am on the Kolkata-bound lane of NH-16. The deceased have been identified as Arun Sur (48), a resident of Balichak, and Abhishek Sinha (25), from the Chandrakona Road area.

According to preliminary information, the two were travelling from the Kharagpur side towards Debra when their car suddenly lost control near Chandaburi Temple and rammed into the rear of another vehicle travelling ahead.

The impact was reportedly severe, leaving the front portion of their car badly mangled. Arun and Abhishek were found critically injured inside the vehicle following the collision.

Local residents rushed to the spot and rescued the two men before taking them to Debra Super Speciality Hospital. However, doctors examined them and declared both dead.

The news of the accident plunged the families of the victims in Balichak and Chandrakona Road into mourning. The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the busy NH-16, where several serious accidents have been reported in recent times.

The exact circumstances that led to the car losing control are yet to be ascertained. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
