Hyderabad, 30 August (H.S.): The Telangana BJP has demanded a court-monitored investigation or a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into allegations surrounding AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig and other individuals.

BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N V Subash said the expulsion of Baig from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on grounds of “indiscipline” could not substitute for a transparent investigation into the allegations. He urged the State government to place all relevant facts before the public and ensure that the investigation is conducted without political interference.

Subash said that allegations involving a woman and a minor required a thorough, impartial and time-bound investigation.

He maintained that the truth should be established irrespective of the political affiliation or social standing of those involved.

The BJP spokesperson also referred to the circumstances surrounding Baig’s expulsion and said questions had arisen after reports that Baig had approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police, alleging that unidentified persons were blackmailing and threatening him over a controversial video.

Subash demanded that the contents and origin of the video, wherever legally permissible, also be examined as part of the investigation. He said a proper inquiry would help establish the facts and prevent speculation surrounding the matter.

He also questioned the State government’s response to allegations involving members or associates of AIMIM and called for the law to be applied uniformly in sensitive criminal matters.

The BJP leader further referred to earlier criminal cases involving persons with the surname Baig, while making it clear that individuals involved in those cases were separate persons and should not be linked merely because of their common surname.

He referred to the 2022 arrest of Ibrahim Baig alias Addu and Mirza Omer Baig alias Zubair by Hyderabad Police in connection with an alleged gang rape case. He also mentioned other cases cited by the BJP involving individuals named Mirza Ahmed Baig, Mirza Rahmath Ali Baig and Mirza Ibrahim Baig, including allegations related to sexual assault and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Subash said each allegation should be examined independently and on its own merits. He reiterated the BJP’s demand for an independent and court-monitored investigation to ensure that the investigation is not influenced by political or other considerations.

The BJP’s demand came after AIMIM expelled Mirza Rahmath Baig from the party on Friday night.

In a statement, AIMIM said Baig had been expelled from the party with immediate effect and directed him to submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council. The decision was communicated by the party’s Joint Secretary S. A. Hussain Anwar.

The party said Baig was required to resign from the Legislative Council with immediate effect.
