Nadia, 30 August (H.S.): The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major gold smuggling attempt along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Nadia district and seized 15.607 kg of gold. A woman was arrested in connection with the seizure.

According to the BSF, personnel of the 32nd Battalion launched an operation in the Banipur border area following a tip-off about suspected smuggling activities. After keeping the area under surveillance for a considerable period, the personnel noticed suspicious movement and intercepted a woman.

A search led to the recovery of 15.607 kg of gold from her possession. The BSF estimated the market value of the seized gold at approximately Rs 24.95 crore.

The arrested woman is being questioned by BSF officials. Investigators are trying to determine where the gold was sourced from, where it was intended to be taken across the border and who else may be involved in the suspected smuggling network.

The BSF has intensified surveillance and security measures along the border to curb smuggling activities. The recovery of such a large quantity of gold has also raised the possibility of the involvement of a larger organised smuggling network.
