New Delhi, 30 August (H.S.): South Delhi Superstarz produced a dominant performance in the Women’s Delhi Premier League (DPL), defeating East Delhi Riders by 70 runs. In the match played at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday night, opener Priya Punia emerged as the star of South Delhi’s emphatic victory, smashing a superb century to help her side post a formidable total.

Punia played a sensational innings of 117 runs from just 66 deliveries, striking 13 fours and six sixes. She adopted an aggressive approach from the outset, consistently putting the East Delhi bowlers under pressure. Punia found the boundaries all around the ground and maintained a brisk scoring rate with regular attacking strokes. Her fluent batting also allowed the batters at the other end to play with greater freedom.

Powered by Punia’s magnificent knock, South Delhi Superstarz posted a commanding 180 for four in their allotted 20 overs, setting East Delhi Riders a challenging target of 181.

East Delhi’s chase got off to a difficult start as the South Delhi bowlers struck at regular intervals and kept the Riders under sustained pressure. By the 14th over, East Delhi had slipped to 61 for five.

The continuous fall of wickets prevented East Delhi’s batters from building substantial partnerships. The Riders were also unable to maintain the scoring rate required to stay in contention for the target.

East Delhi Riders eventually finished at 110 for six in their 20 overs, falling 70 runs short of the target and handing South Delhi Superstarz a comprehensive victory.
