Guwahati, 30 August (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced a series of decisions following the State Cabinet meeting, including subsidised sugar and pulses for ration card holders, financial assistance under the Orunodoi scheme, flood relief and infrastructure projects at Gauhati University etc..

Under the new arrangement, beneficiaries will be able to purchase 1 kg of sugar at ₹35 and 1 kg of masur dal at ₹70 at subsidised rates.

The Chief Minister said Orunodoi beneficiaries in Sivasagar and Charaideo districts will receive ₹2,000 this month, while beneficiaries in other districts will receive ₹1,200. The Orunodoi amount will be credited to beneficiaries on September 10.

He also announced that the first instalment of ₹15,000 flood relief will be released on September 1 for flood-affected families in four Upper Assam districts. Families that have not received assistance so far will also be covered.

The Jibon Prerana scheme will resume from September 1, while the first instalment under the CM-FLIGHT scheme will also be released.

On the situation involving eight Assam residents who had gone missing in Nepal, the Chief Minister said their whereabouts have been traced. They are expected to enter the Indian border at around 5 pm and will be brought back from Kathmandu by air.

The Chief Minister further announced an allocation of ₹250 crore for various infrastructure works at Gauhati University, with ₹109 crore approved in the first phase. The projects will include a G+5 academic building, a G+4 hostel for international students, a hostel for students and staff quarters.

The Chief Minister said the projects at Gauhati University will be inaugurated by the Vice-President of India on September 7.----------
