Bhubaneswar, 30 August (H.S.): Former Odisha minister and veteran politician Dambaru Majhi passed away while undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital in Nabarangpur on Sunday. He was 86.

Majhi had been undergoing treatment for age-related health complications and reportedly breathed his last at around 5 am at the hospital.

A prominent political figure from the undivided Nabarangpur region, Majhi had a long and significant political career. He served as a minister in the Odisha government at different points between 1967 and 1990 and handled several important departments during his tenure.

Majhi was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly five times. He represented the Dabugaon Assembly constituency in 1967, 1971 and 1985, and was elected from the Kodinga constituency in 1977 and 1980.

Over the course of his decades-long political career, Majhi emerged as an influential leader in the politics of the region and maintained a strong connection with the people.

His demise has triggered grief across political circles, with leaders, supporters and well-wishers mourning the death of the veteran politician and recalling his long contribution to public life in the region.
