Kolkata, 03 August (H.S.): The West Bengal government has strengthened its Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to enhance the investigation of corruption-related cases by transferring three IPS officers from the Intelligence Branch (IB) to the specialised unit.
According to a government notification issued on Monday, IPS officers Muralidhar Sharma, Akash Magharia and Kamnashis Sen have been posted to the ACB. Besides these three officers, 16 other police personnel from different wings of the state police have been deputed to the Anti-Corruption Branch for a period of two months.
The notification directs all the officers concerned to report to the ACB and assume charge by 10 a.m. on August 4.
The deputed personnel include one Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), several Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and Constables. They have been drawn from various units, including the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, CID, STF, Intelligence Branch, Howrah GRP, West Midnapore, Hooghly Rural, Krishnanagar and Sundarbans Police District.
Among those deputed are DSP Biswajit Patra, Inspectors Dipankar Sarkar, Soumen Biswas, Sanjay Kumar Mondal, Pranab Kanti Sahu, Anup Ghosh, Ramgopal Pal, Sanjay Kumar De and Debanjan Bhattacharya, Sub-Inspectors Bachchu Murari, Jahangir Ali and Bappa Sarkar, besides four constables.
Police and administrative sources said the move is aimed at accelerating investigations into corruption cases, ensuring the speedy disposal of important pending cases, and further strengthening the operational capacity of the Anti-Corruption Branch.
