New Delhi, 03 August (H.S.): The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday launched the revamped version of its ‘TRAI MyCall’ mobile application with the aim of improving mobile voice call quality across the country and ensuring greater direct participation of consumers.
Through the upgraded app, mobile users will now be able to rate the quality of every voice call on a scale of one to five stars after the call ends. They can also directly report issues such as call drops, voice disruptions, audio delays, cross-connections and excessive time taken for call connectivity.
Launching the app, TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti said that although it is being referred to as an upgraded version, it is practically a completely new and comprehensive system. He said the objective of the application is to provide consumers with a simple platform to voluntarily evaluate their voice call experience.
Consumers can submit their feedback through a pop-up notification immediately after ending a call or by accessing the app directly. They can also share details about network-related issues through the platform.
Lahoti said that the new version of the app will allow users to view their previous feedback records and conduct network coverage tests themselves. The data collected from consumers will help telecom service providers identify areas requiring targeted improvements, while TRAI will use the information to strengthen its service quality monitoring mechanism.
The earlier nine-year-old ‘MyCall’ app had been facing compatibility issues with modern smartphones, particularly devices running Android 12 and above. Therefore, the application has been completely redesigned with improved features. A multilingual facility has also been integrated through the ‘Bhashini’ platform, enabling users across different Indian languages to access the app more easily.
Under the new system, consumers can rate any voice call from one to five stars. If a call receives a rating of three stars or below, users can select specific problems they faced, including call drops, voice distortion, echo, audio delays, cross-connections, one-way audio issues or delays in connecting calls.
The upgraded app also includes a network coverage testing feature, allowing consumers to check the actual signal availability at their location and obtain details about the network technology being used, such as 4G or 5G.
Additionally, users will be able to view their previous location-based ratings and network-related information through an interactive map, helping them better understand network performance in different areas.
