New Delhi, 03 August (H.S.): India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to injury. The Men’s Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included Jammu and Kashmir pacer Aqib Nabi in the senior Indian Test squad for the first time as Bumrah’s replacement.
The BCCI confirmed the development through a press release issued on Monday.
According to the BCCI, Bumrah has not yet fully recovered from a left knee injury he sustained during the ODI series against England. As a result, he was not considered available for the Sri Lanka tour, and the selection committee decided to bring in Aqib Nabi in his place.
This marks Aqib Nabi’s maiden selection in the Indian senior team. The young Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler has delivered outstanding performances in the last two Ranji Trophy seasons, claiming 104 wickets. His tally includes 60 wickets in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, playing a key role in helping Jammu and Kashmir win their maiden Ranji Trophy title in history.
Recently, Aqib Nabi was also part of the India A squad that toured Sri Lanka, where he impressed the selectors by taking six wickets in two first-class matches.
India’s revised Test squad for the Sri Lanka series:
Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (Wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (Wicketkeeper), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain and Aqib Nabi.
Note: Sai Sudharsan’s selection will be subject to fitness clearance.
