New Delhi, 03 August (H.S.): Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated Indian athletes, coaches and support staff for their remarkable performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, saying that India showcased its growing sporting strength despite the limited number of disciplines featured in this edition. He expressed confidence that the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad in 2030, will become one of the most memorable events in the history of the Games.

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Mansukh Mandaviya wrote, “India concluded the Commonwealth Games 2026 with an impressive fourth-place finish. The Glasgow 2026 edition featured a limited number of sports and excluded several disciplines where India has traditionally performed strongly. Despite this, the Indian contingent made remarkable progress by winning 39 medals this time compared to 30 medals in the same events at Birmingham 2022.”

He added, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the depth and strength of Indian sports continue to grow. We are proud of every athlete, coach and support staff member who gave their best for the Tricolour.”

Mandaviya further said, “As India prepares to host the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2030, our resolve is to organise one of the greatest sporting events in the history of the Games.”

India finished fourth in the medal tally at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games after securing a total of 39 medals. Indian athletes won 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals. Despite the restricted number of events, India delivered impressive performances in sports such as boxing, athletics, judo, para sports and weightlifting, strengthening its position as a major sporting nation.

Australia topped the medal table with 171 medals, including 70 gold medals. England finished second with 110 medals, while Canada secured the third position with 62 medals. Hosts Scotland also won 39 medals but finished fifth as they had fewer silver medals compared to India.

The strong performance by Indian athletes during the 11-day sporting event once again highlighted India’s emergence as one of the leading sporting powers among Commonwealth nations. With the successful hosting of Ahmedabad 2030 and an even stronger performance on its agenda, India now looks ahead to a new chapter in global sports.
