
Hooghly, 03 August (H.S.): Chandannagar Police Commissionerate on Monday formally inaugurated Road Safety Week–2026 at Gharir More in Chinsurah. The week-long road safety awareness campaign will be observed from August 3 to August 9, 2026 across the Commissionerate area.
The inaugural programme was attended by Ananda Roy, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Chandannagar Police Commissionerate, as the chief guest. Chinsurah MLA Subir Nag and senior officers from the police and civil administration were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of responsible road behaviour, strict compliance with traffic rules, and active public participation to reduce road accidents and save lives. Citizens were urged to wear helmets and seat belts, avoid drunken and careless driving, and strictly follow traffic regulations.
As part of the inaugural programme, a colourful Road Safety Rally was flagged off from Gharir More. The rally saw enthusiastic participation from school students, bus and pool car drivers, members of the transport community, police personnel and other stakeholders. Participants carried messages promoting road safety and responsible road usage.
The Chandannagar Police Commissionerate informed that throughout the Road Safety Week campaign, various awareness programmes, educational initiatives, enforcement drives and community outreach activities will be organised across all police stations and traffic guards under the Commissionerate.
The Commissionerate has appealed to citizens to actively participate in the campaign and contribute towards making roads safer for everyone.
