Mumbai, 03 August (H.S.): The three-day bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) review meeting of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) began here on Monday. The meeting, chaired by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, will continue until August 5. The outcome of the meeting will be announced by Sanjay Malhotra at 10:00 a.m. on August 5.

The RBI said in a post on X, Insights, assessment and the way ahead, coming soon. The central bank urged people to stay tuned for the Monetary Policy Committee statement at 10:00 a.m. on August 5.

The RBI had conducted the second MPC meeting of the current financial year in June, during which it kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent. However, it raised its inflation forecast for 2027 from 4.6 per cent to 5.1 per cent.

Economic experts believe that in view of the West Asia crisis and inflationary risks, the RBI is unlikely to make any changes to the policy repo rate in this review as well. The central bank is expected to maintain the repo rate at 5.25 per cent.

It may be noted that a total of six MPC meetings are scheduled during the financial year 2026-27, and this is the third meeting of the committee. The first meeting was held in April. To support economic growth, the RBI had reduced the policy repo rate by 1.25 percentage points last year, and it has remained unchanged at 5.25 per cent since then.
