Kolkata, 03 August (H.S.): The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police on Monday arrested Aditya Singh alias Raj from Belilious Road in Howrah in connection with its ongoing investigation into an alleged terror-linked conspiracy. Investigators claim that Aditya was in regular contact with arrested suspect Hamim Mondal and had been assigned to monitor the movements of state minister Umesh Rai.
According to police sources, investigators have recovered evidence indicating that Aditya allegedly photographed the minister's movements and forwarded the images to Hamim Mondal. The STF is now examining whether the surveillance was part of a larger conspiracy, including a possible plan to target the minister.
Aditya Singh is currently being interrogated by the STF. Officials believe his questioning could provide crucial leads about Hamim Mondal's network and his alleged associates.
Hamim Mondal was arrested from Burdwan last week. The STF has alleged that he had links with the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed and Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). According to the investigating agency, he was also allegedly involved in a conspiracy to attack the Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Earlier in the investigation, Hamim Mondal's alleged associate Arpita Sarkar was arrested from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. Investigators have alleged that she was used to honey-trap influential individuals in an attempt to obtain sensitive and confidential information.
The STF is continuing its investigation to establish Aditya Singh's exact role, identify his links with the alleged conspiracy, and uncover the full extent of the suspected network.
