Chandigarh, 03 August (H.S.): The Punjab Vidhan Sabha, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, paid heartfelt tributes on Monday to prominent personalities and others who passed away since the previous session of the Assembly.

At the beginning of the Monsoon Session of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha, the House remembered former MLA Sahi Ram Bishnoi, martyr Sepoy Sarabjit Singh, freedom fighter Seva Singh, Olympian Randhir Singh, lyricist and writer Bhula Ram, popularly known as Chann Goraya, Manjeet Singh Dhos, uncle of MLA Devinderjeet Singh Laddi Dhos, and Bhupinder Singh Pahra, uncle of MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra.

On the recommendation of MLA Sarvjit Kaur Manuke, the Assembly also paid tribute to Army martyr Sikander Singh. Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan read brief accounts highlighting the lives, contributions and personalities of the departed souls.

The House also expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of students who lost their lives amid the atmosphere of uncertainty created across the country following the leakage of the NEET examination paper. Members conveyed their condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families.

As a mark of respect, the House observed a two-minute silence in memory of all the departed souls during the obituary references.
