New Delhi, 03 August (H.S.): Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 2:00 p.m. on Monday after Opposition members created a ruckus during Zero Hour, demanding the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the House during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

As the House assembled at 11:00 a.m., Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan, during Zero Hour, extended the House's congratulations and best wishes to the Indian contingent for its outstanding performance at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. He noted that the 123-member Indian contingent secured fourth place by winning a total of 39 medals during the 11-day multi-sport event. He said the athletes had brought immense pride to the nation and that their achievements served as a source of inspiration for the entire country. He also congratulated India's para-athletes, who won seven medals, and conveyed the House's best wishes to all the athletes for their remarkable performances.

Following this, legislative business commenced. However, Opposition members began protesting and demanded the presence of the Union Home Minister in the House while also raising issues related to documents laid on the Table of the House.

During Zero Hour, several Members of Parliament also raised public interest issues, including sleep apnea, the conservation of traditional stepwells (baolis), and other matters. However, as the uproar continued unabated, the Chairman adjourned the proceedings of the House until 2:00 p.m.

When the Rajya Sabha reconvenes at 2:00 p.m., the government is expected to move the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026, for passage. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006. Under the amendment, if a petition challenging an award remains pending before a court for more than six months, the court may direct that at least 50 percent of the awarded amount be paid to the MSME supplier.
