Global markets presented mixed signals on Monday. U.S. equities ended the previous session on a strong note, while Dow Jones Futures continued to trade higher. European markets closed with mixed results in the last session, and Asian markets were also witnessing mixed trading during early hours.
Wall Street ended the previous session in positive territory, supported by sustained buying interest. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 276.97 points, or 0.53 percent, to close at 52,485.03. The S&P 500 advanced 0.70 percent to settle at 7,489.72, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 251.68 points, or 1 percent, to finish at 25,373.85. Meanwhile, Dow Jones Futures were trading 285.57 points, or 0.54 percent, higher at 52,770.60.
European markets closed on a mixed note in the previous session. The FTSE Index declined 0.27 percent to end at 10,868.05. In contrast, France's CAC 40 rose 0.28 percent to close at 8,509.64, while Germany's DAX Index edged up 0.07 percent to settle at 25,629.24.
Asian markets were also trading mixed on Monday. Of the nine major Asian indices, five were in negative territory, while four were trading with gains. Gift Nifty was up 182.50 points, or 0.75 percent, at 24,630.50. Taiwan Weighted Index gained 382.59 points, or 0.89 percent, to trade at 45,502.34. Thailand's SET Composite Index advanced 0.17 percent to 1,626.43, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 0.13 percent to 25,919.
On the downside, Japan's Nikkei Index fell 675.02 points, or 1.05 percent, to 63,687. China's Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.59 percent to 3,809.65. South Korea's Kospi Index witnessed the sharpest fall, dropping 307.29 points, or 4.66 percent, to 6,288.16. Singapore's Straits Times Index slipped 0.28 percent to 5,612.99, while Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index eased 0.25 percent to 6,220.62.
