Guwahati, 03 August (HS): The Sanskrit Department of Gauhati University successfully organised its first-ever alumni meet on Monday, bringing together former students, faculty members, research scholars and teachers from schools, colleges and universities across Assam.

The event was chaired by the Head of the Department, Prof. Kameshwar Shukla. MLA Vijay Kumar Gupta attended as the chief guest, while former heads of the department and several distinguished academicians, including founding Vice-Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Acharya Deepak Kumar Sharma, were present as special guests.

The inaugural session, conducted by Dr. Binima Bujarbaruah, began with a Saraswati Vandana and a welcome song by students of the department. In his address, Prof. Shukla highlighted the objectives of the alumni meet and appealed to former students to contribute actively to the academic and institutional growth of the department.

An interactive session followed, where senior alumni and scholars shared their views on strengthening the department, promoting academic excellence and outlining future initiatives for Sanskrit studies.

During the concluding session, the Alumni Council of the Sanskrit Department, Gauhati University was formally constituted. Prof. Kameshwar Shukla was unanimously elected as its first President, while Prof. Jagadish Sharma was chosen as General Secretary. Other office-bearers were also elected to the executive committee.

The conference marked a significant step towards fostering stronger ties between former and current students while creating a collaborative platform for the promotion and development of Sanskrit education and research.---------------
