Hooghly, 03 August (H.S.): An awareness programme on “Building a Drug-Free Society” was organised at Jirat College in Hooghly on Monday with the aim of spreading awareness against substance abuse. West Bengal Government Minister Sumana Sarkar was present at the programme.

The event was attended by teachers, students and prominent personalities, where messages on creating a drug-free society and the harmful effects of substance abuse were highlighted.

During the programme, the Prime Minister addressed the nation through video conferencing and emphasised the goal of a Drug-Free India. He stressed the importance of increasing public awareness, ensuring participation from all sections of society, and guiding the youth towards a positive path. He also called upon citizens to build a social movement against drug abuse.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Sumana Sarkar said that addiction not only affects an individual but also harms families and society as a whole. She stressed the need for collective efforts to create a healthy, safe and prosperous society by making the younger generation aware of the dangers of substance abuse.

She appealed to everyone to work together to increase social awareness against drugs and protect future generations.
