Bhopal/Ujjain, 03 August (H.S.): Madhya Pradesh bid farewell on Monday to one of its most respected political figures as former State minister and six-time legislator Paras Chandra Jain passed away, prompting an outpouring of grief across political and social circles. Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav travelled from Bhopal to Ujjain immediately after receiving the news, personally paying floral tributes to the veteran leader and consoling his bereaved family.

Describing Jain's demise as an irreparable loss to the State, the Chief Minister remembered him as a dedicated public servant whose life was defined by simplicity, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the people. Dr Yadav said the veteran leader had earned widespread affection through decades of public service and would continue to be remembered not only for his political achievements but also for his humility and humanitarian values.

Offering prayers at the residence of the late leader, the Chief Minister sought the blessings of Baba Mahakal for eternal peace to the departed soul and strength for the grieving family to bear the profound loss.

Paras Chandra Jain devoted his life to serving society. His contribution to public life, his accessibility to ordinary citizens and his commitment to the welfare of the people have left an indelible mark on Madhya Pradesh, Dr Yadav said while paying homage.

A towering figure in the politics of Ujjain, Paras Chandra Jain represented the Ujjain North Assembly constituency six times, establishing himself as one of the city's most enduring and influential political leaders. Throughout his long legislative career, he was recognised for maintaining close contact with constituents and addressing local issues with dedication and persistence.

During his tenure in government, Jain handled several significant portfolios, including School Education, Energy, Forest, and Food and Civil Supplies. Colleagues across party lines acknowledged his administrative experience and practical approach to governance, particularly in sectors directly affecting everyday life. His ministerial responsibilities reflected the confidence successive governments placed in his ability to deliver effective public administration.

Beyond politics, Jain enjoyed a unique identity that endeared him to people across Madhya Pradesh. Popularly known as Paras Pehalwan, he earned respect in the traditional sport of wrestling long before entering public life. His achievements in the wrestling arena became an integral part of his public persona, symbolising discipline, determination and resilience—qualities that later defined his political career.

Friends and political associates often described him as a leader who combined firmness with compassion, remaining approachable despite decades in public office. His contributions extended beyond electoral politics, with active involvement in numerous social and community initiatives that strengthened his bond with people across the region.

Leaders from across the State joined the Chief Minister in paying their respects. Ministers Gautam Tetwal and Inder Singh Parmar, MLA Anil Jain Kaluheda, Ujjain Mayor Mukesh Tatwal, Ujjain Development Authority Chairman Ravi Solanki, several public representatives, party workers and administrative officials were present to offer floral tributes. Hundreds of supporters and local residents also gathered to bid a final farewell to the veteran leader whose political journey spanned several decades.

While tributes highlighted his public achievements, one final act reflected the values by which Jain chose to live. Having pledged during his lifetime to donate his eyes after his death, the former minister's wish was honoured following his passing. The posthumous eye donation procedure was successfully completed, and his corneas will now help restore vision to two visually impaired individuals.

The gesture drew widespread appreciation from those present, transforming a moment of grief into one of hope. Medical experts and social organisations have frequently described eye donation as one of the most meaningful acts of service, enabling individuals to continue transforming lives even after death. Jain's final decision reinforced the humanitarian ideals that many associated with his public life.

The passing of Paras Chandra Jain marks the end of a distinguished political chapter in Madhya Pradesh. Yet, for many who knew him—as a legislator, minister, wrestler and social worker—his legacy will be measured not merely by the offices he held but by the trust he earned among the people.
