Kolkata, 03 August (H.S.): A newly constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to inspect the crime scene in the rape and murder case of a woman doctor. The team examined the Emergency Department building and conducted a detailed assessment of the spot where the crime took place.

The investigation team, led by CBI Joint Director Anurag Kumar, reached the hospital on Monday afternoon. After inspecting the crime scene, the officers held an internal discussion on the progress of the investigation. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Saptarshi Chattopadhyay confirmed that the five-member CBI SIT visited the Emergency Department, inspected the scene, and reviewed the case among themselves.

Last Thursday, the CBI submitted a status report on the investigation before the Sealdah Court and informed the court that the case had been assigned to a new Investigating Officer (IO). Sandipani Garg has replaced Seema Pahuja as the new IO. The agency also informed the court that the newly formed investigation team was scrutinising nearly 1,000 pages of case records, including the case diary, and sought additional time to complete the probe.

The SIT, constituted on the directions of the court, is headed by CBI Joint Director Anurag Kumar. The team also includes Manish Upadhyay, the Investigating Officer handling the alleged financial irregularities case linked to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, the victim's family has urged the CBI to re-examine all individuals who were in contact with their daughter before the incident and, if necessary, take them into custody for questioning. The victim's mother conveyed the same request to the new Investigating Officer, Sandipani Garg, who assured the family that the investigation would be carried out impartially and urged them to maintain faith in the probe.
