Bhubaneswar, 03 August (H.S.) : A total of 96 snakebite cases have been reported from flood-affected areas in Odisha, with no fatalities recorded so far, the Public Health Department said on Monday.
Joint Director of Public Health, Dr. Basanta Pradhan, informed that despite the receding floodwaters, health concerns persist across seven districts—Baleshwar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Puri and Cuttack.
To address the situation, the Health Department has activated control rooms and set up temporary treatment camps in all affected districts. In coordination with the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), authorities have ensured adequate availability of ORS, anti-snake venom (ASV) and other essential medicines.
Apart from snakebites, 195 cases of diarrhoea have also been reported, with patients receiving treatment and special attention being given to preventing dehydration.
Dr. Pradhan added that medical services have been extended to 21,334 people so far. Additionally, 481 pregnant women were shifted to safer locations, out of which 332 have delivered successfully. No maternal or neonatal deaths have been reported, the department confirmed.
The Health Department continues to remain on high alert to prevent any outbreak of waterborne or vector-borne diseases in the aftermath of the floods.
