Guwahati, 03 August (HS): The 72nd All India Inter-Railway Table Tennis Championship (Men & Women) 2026-27, hosted by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), got underway at the NFR Sports Association (NFRSA) Indoor Stadium in Maligaon on Monday. The five-day championship will continue till August 7.
According to NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the tournament has brought together 65 men and 31 women players representing various zonal railways and production units of Indian Railways. The event is being officiated by 17 referees, along with two selectors and one observer appointed by the Railway Board.
The championship features competitions in both men's and women's categories, highlighting the sporting talent and competitive spirit within Indian Railways.
NFR Additional General Manager Ramesh Kumar inaugurated the championship as the chief guest. The opening ceremony included the introduction of participating teams, flag hoisting, welcome address, introduction of Railway Board officials, felicitation of guests, and the formal declaration of the championship open.
NFR said hosting the prestigious event reflects its continued commitment to promoting sports, nurturing talent, and strengthening camaraderie among railway employees across the country.---------------
