Hooghly, 29 August (H.S.): Acting on input received from ACB Kolkata, personnel of the Chandannagar Police Commissionerate along with a Food Safety Officer (FSO) conducted a raid at a small unit engaged in the production of turmeric powder in the Srirampore-Uttarpara area of Hooghly district.

During the inspection, officials reportedly found that the unit was operating without a valid FSSAI licence, as its licence had expired around eight months ago.

During the raid, the Food Safety Officer collected samples of turmeric powder from the unit. The samples will be sent for laboratory examination to determine whether any artificial colour or other adulterants have been used in the turmeric powder.

Officials said that operating a food-processing unit without a valid licence is a violation of food safety regulations. Legal action is being initiated by the Food Safety Officer in coordination with the local police.

The authorities are also examining how long the unit had been operating after the expiry of its licence and whether the turmeric powder being produced there complied with prescribed food safety and quality standards.
