Prayagraj, 29 Aug (HS): To mark the

occasion of National Sports Day, North Central Railway (NCR) held a special

ceremony and sports competition at Railgaon Subedarganj to honor outstanding

sportspersons and support staff. The event, which included various sporting

events and a felicitation ceremony, was part of a larger series of programs

organized across all NCR divisions and units.

The event began with the General Manager of North Central Railway, Naresh

Pal Singh, flagging off a 4 km cross-country race at Railgaon Stadium. This was

followed by a Shot put , 100 meter race & tug-of-war. The events culminated

in an awards ceremony at the Spandan Officers’ Club, where top-performing NCR

sportspersons and coaches from the past year were recognized.

The event commenced with a tribute to the legendary hockey player, Major

Dhyan Chand, whose birthday is celebrated as National Sports Day. The General

Manager and other officials paid their respects by garlanding a photograph of

the hockey icon. S.P. Dwivedi, President of the NCR Sports Association and

Principal Chief Materials Manager, welcomed the General Manager with a planter

and presented a detailed report on the association's achievements.

In his address, General Manager Naresh Pal Singh praised the sportspersons,

stating that Major Dhyan Chand's life is a constant source of inspiration. He

congratulated the honored players, expressing his hope that their achievements

would motivate others, both present at the ceremony and those connected via

video conference, to strive for even greater success in the future.

On this occasion, those honored by the General Manager of North Central

Railway, Naresh Pal Singh, included North Central Railway athletes Rohit

(Hockey), Upasana Singh (Hockey), Karishma Yadav (Hockey), Bhavna Goplani

(Cricket), Parna Paul (Cricket), Sandeep Singh (Powerlifting), Komal Kohar

(Weightlifting), Bhupendra Singh (Athletics), Ragni Gaur (Athletics Coach),

Aditya Singh Rana (Gymnastics), and Siddharth Verma (Gymnastics).

The results of the various sports competitions were as follows: In this

series of events, the cross-country race was held across three categories:

under 20 years, 20–50 years, and over 50 years of age. In the under-20

category, Shri Hardik Tiwari secured first place, Shri Arshit Jaiswal second,

and Shri Yashraj third. In the 20–50 age group, Shri Vashishth Kumar took first

place, Md. Hussain second, and Shri Rajesh Kumar third. In the over-50

category, Dr. Amit Malviya secured first place, Shri Ravindra Prasad second,

and Shri R.S.V. Singh third.

In the shot put event, Dinesh Rai secured first place, Danish Ali second,

and Praveen Dubey third. Among the officers, Secretary to General Manager Akhil

Shukla took first place, while Principal Chief Materials Manager S.P. Dwivedi

and Principal Chief Personnel Officer Mudit Chandra secured joint second place.

In the children's 100-meter race, Divyansh Rai secured first place, Vihan

Singh second, and Hardik Tiwari third. Bharat secured first place, Praveen Dubey

second, and Md. Nasir third.In the tug-of-war event, the Commercial Department

team emerged as the winner, while the Railway Protection Force team was the

runner-up. The event saw the presence of principal heads of departments and

other officials from North Central Railway. The vote of thanks was proposed by Gautam

Jain, General Secretary of the North Central Railway Sports Association &

program was hosted by Joint Secretary Dr. Amit Malaviya.
